Int’l conference on migrant workers on Nov 12-14 in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is going to organize an International Conference on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers’ in the capital city from November 12 to 14.
Organizing a press conference here today, the NHRC said the Conference would address the migrant workers’ issues such as free, fair and responsible recruitment process of the migrant worker, protection of the rights of the migrant workers and their family members and their access to justice among others.
NHRC Chairman, Anupraj Ojha, shared that since the issues relating to the protection of the rights of migrant workers were a cause for concern across the globe, the international conference was conceived to secure welfare of the millions of migrant workers from Nepal and South Asia working in the Gulf countries.
A total of 24 Chairmen and members from Human Rights Commissions of 30 countries, international experts, representatives from the governments, civic society members and organizations promoting migrant workers’ right would attend the event.
There will be 90 international participants and 35 from Nepal taking part in the Conference, according to the NHRC.
Information and experience exchange on the wide array of issues relating to migrant workers will take place during the three-day conference besides presentation of working papers.
