126 immigrants, including Nepalese arrested in Guatemala

N24 Correspondent, LOS ANGELES:- Guatemalan police have rescued 126 migrants from various countries, including Nepalese, who were left stranded in a container. The locals had informed the police after hearing loud cries inside the container.

Guatemalan police have speculated that a group of human traffickers may have left them stranded after extorting large sums of money to take them to the United States. Of those rescued, 100 are believed to be Haitian nationals. The rest are citizens of Nepal, Ghana and other countries.

“When we heard the screams, we opened the container door and saw 126 people who had entered illegally,” said a Guatemalan police spokesman. Preliminary investigations have revealed that they were on their way to the United States via Mexico.
